1.9 or 2.5

The rota saga continues, despite efforts by the chief to persuade cops to complain to the Fed that they do not want to work the pattern voted for by the majority, and despite his attempts publicly to try to show he is the good guy in all this, no agreement has been reached and the 8 hour seven on and 2 off starts at the end of January. BUT only for the cops, the PCSOs, Detention Officers and Comms staff who are not cops still have not had a vote, or any idea when they will get a vote, and are staying on the present 10 hour pattern of six on and four off. How long for though, will they eventually vote for 8 hours or the 'new' 10 hour pattern which will totally f*** things up.

The unions have not yet been able to get agreement on the pay rise for their members, this has historically been the same as the cops get and agreed after the figure is set for cops. So what will happen now, will they get 1.9% or 2.5%. If 2.5% will it be back dated to September. If not will industrial action be taken. If it is back dated how can that be fair, either way could be a loose - loose situation for this set of morons who claim to be a government, and all of their own making.

Pink Pot

Call today from a social worker..there is an asian man walking along...he has a scarfe over his face and a pink plaster cast on his arm, think this is suspicious! It might remotely have been a bit sus if it had not been cold and very windy and within a couple of hundred yards of the local A&E hospital in the middle of a predominantly asian area. Sad this is this was logged for action by a cop as well!

The rota saga goes on, the Chief has invited officers, via their SMT, to email the Fed saying they are not happy with the vote for 8 hours and want to work what the Chief wants - unbelievable.
He has given them a week to do so and the Fed a week to accept what he wants or its 8 hour shifts, 7 on and 2 off. Am I missing the point here but was there not a ballot which was against what the Chief wanted.

Ah well, moral is at an all time low, everyone I talk to is thoroughly pissed off, and he has done wonders for the force.

The saga continues

Rumours are rife and information of any substance is distinctly absent at the start of the day. The Command Team are not happy with the vote and are suggesting the Fed may want to agree to the 10 hour option after all - despite the vote being against it is just one rumour. Mix into that a suggestion the Fed is going to inform the Home Office they have no confidence in the Chief and rumours about a very senior officer being caught in his office in a very compromising position with his secretary. All making a slow day pass a bit quicker.

Work continues however, a caller suggests he has been kidnapped, his car stolen from him and his life threatened. This happened 24 hours ago and he has only just reported it, and cannot wait at a nick to be seen, makes one think it is a load of rubbish - but you never know. Surprise surprise it turns out he bought a car from someone but did not pay, they took it back, and he made the rest up to get a quicker response. The problem is it worked, well sort of.

Information now from the union, the Police Staff have not agreed anything yet and will not be changing shifts on 28 January when the cops change. There will be a vote for them at some point.

The Chief has instructed all Divisional Officers to tell the cops that team 3 will be split up and 4 teams not 5 will be working from 28 Jan, (makes sense as an 8 hour shift needs 4 teams not 5), but he has given the Fed 1 week to change their mind and accept what he wants. Sorry but is that democratic, the vote rejected what he wanted! Not only that but as long as he is the Chief there will be no further change of rota. Bullying, intimidation, undemocratic, all words that come to mind.

Never mind there might be a vacancy in the Met before long - here's hoping!

Wonder what will be flying around the force tomorrow

Oooops

Large Northern Force, LNF, has just had a vote for police officers on which shift pattern they want to work. The present 6 on and 4 off liked by the majority is not an option. The only 2 options are a variation of the Ottowa pattern worked several years ago, or if that is rejected, an 8 hour option last worked many years ago, and probably never worked by a large number of present LNF members.

Why the Oooops, well the vote has gone in favour of the 8 hours option. Why, because it appears the majority have decided the Command Team in general, and the Chief, in particular, have used intimidation, gone through the motions of consultation, and generally been underhand. The 8 hour option is not what the Chief wants, will cost a fortune in overtime when officers work 12 hour shifts and will get twice as much overtime pay due to working normal 8 hour and not 10 hour shifts. Plus it will not give him the cover when he wants it, the ground swell from operational officers has been lets give him what he does not want.

So what happens now, it might sound simple, officers start on 8 hour shifts on 28 January. But in the good old ACRs there are only 10 percent officers, the other 90 are Police Staff (civilians), who are also being forced through the same shift change process, BUT, have unions arguing for them, who have involved ACAS, and who are no where near any vote.

So the ACR, unless of course the Chief backs down, will have one group of staff working a 4 shift 8 hour pattern, and one group working a 5 shift 10 hour pattern. That will be fun to manage and will not provide the cover when it is needed.
